Aunty Cavell’s Restaurant is a beloved, family-run spot located on Antigua’s west coast, right next to Darkwood Beach. Known for its warm hospitality and authentic Antiguan dishes, this restaurant is a favourite among locals and visitors seeking a true taste of the island in a relaxed, down-to-earth setting.
The menu at Aunty Cavell’s features home-cooked meals, including freshly grilled seafood and traditional Caribbean stews, all prepared with bold flavours and care. Whether you're stopping by for a casual lunch or grabbing a takeaway, Aunty Cavell’s Restaurant serves up its culinary magic with the simple goal of putting smiles on faces.
Aunty Cavell’s Restaurant is easily one of my favourite restaurants to go to for authentic local food in Antigua and Barbuda. The flavours they are able to create in that kitchen are just sensational and the portion sizes leave you satisfied for the rest of the day. I also find that they take more care in the presentation of the food than most local restaurants. They generally say that you eat with your eyes first so this small touch definitely helps to elevate the experience. You’ll find a variety of meat and fish dishes here with a concise menu that changes almost daily.
In terms of drinks I highly recommend trying their coconut crush with a touch of rum, trust me you won’t regret it! When I take my dad here he’ll have two every time, with out fail haha. My friend also loved it so much when she came to visit that she got the recipe for it and now makes them back in London, even in the cold weather. They also do a good old fashioned rum punch. If alcohol isn’t for you they have some tasty local juices that are worth a try.
Theres is always very warm and friendly atmosphere at Aunty Cavell’s Restaurant with staff welcoming you with big smiles. The restaurant is completely open allowing for a nice cool breeze to flow through the space. You also have a choice to sit in the restaurant or down by the bank of the pond, both have a view of Darkwood Beach.
In regards to value for money, Aunty Cavell’s Restaurant is right up there for top value! Whilst prices may be higher than many local casual dining restaurants it certainly wouldn’t be considered an expensive meal by any means. Their price point and quality make them a very popular West Coast stop for both tourists and locals.
As I just mentioned, Aunty Cavell’s Restaurant is a very popular spot for both tourists and locals. However, a significant number of those visitors choose to take their food away to eat on beach or at another destination. This coupled with the staff’s ability to get food out at a reasonable speed mean that the restaurant usually has spaces available for dining in.
Aunty Cavell’s Restaurant is very accessible, with wheel chair access to the main decked dining area. It is worth mentioning while there is a ram for wheel chair access, the ramp is quite steep so it may be a better idea to opt for the seating next to the pond bank.
Whilst all the dishes at Aunty Cavell’s Restaurant will have you leaving with a full belly and big smile, for those who eat meat, I highly recommend trying the Ox Tail or the Curry Goat dishes which are just phenomenal.
To try to help sustain certain marine species around Antigua and Barbuda, bans are put in place at points in the year to stop the fishing and sale of said species. I mention this as you may not find lobster or conch available, depending on when you visit Aunty Cavell’s Restaurant.
For a great leisurely day out I’d recommend taking yourself to Aunty Cavell’s Restaurant for a mouth watering lunch, spend the rest of the afternoon at Darkwood Beach and then to top it all off, head up the road to Sheer Rocks for some of the best cocktails Antigua and Barbuda have to offer. The sunset from Sheer Rocks is likely to blow you away!
