Rendezvous Bay beach is quite possibly the best beach in Antigua! This beach is absolutely pristine, boasting a long stretch of white sand, crystal clear water, and beautiful back drop of nothing but tropical greenery. There are currently no developments in or around this beach which make it an extremely private and peaceful place.
Whilst Rendezvous Bay Beach is definitely one of Antigua’s gems it is not an easy beach to access by car as the road has not been developed. To get here I would recommend either hiking with a guide or getting a boat charter such as Barefoot for the day.
Although this is such a long stretch of beach, swimming along side the rocks at either end will likely be your best bet for seeing some interesting sea-life.
Like most of the other beaches on the south coast of Antigua, Rendezvous Bay Beach is very calm, with easy gradual access to the water.
As mentioned, there is currently no developments on Rendezvous Bay beach so if you do plan on venturing here, I would recommend bringing a packed lunch. Alternatively, the closest place to get food would be back in English Harbour, more specifically, Sweet-T’s Restaurant on the main road going into Falmouth Harbour.
Due to it’s remote nature, this is not a beach you will find many other people at, making it perfect for anyone looking for ultimate privacy.
It is worth noting that there are no restrooms on Rendezvous Bay beach, so I would definitely relieve yourself before you make this journey.
As mentioned before, I’d definitely recommend getting a local guide like Nick from Happy Heights to show you how to get to Rendezvous Bay Beach. There are multiple trails that can get you there, including one that goes through the rainforest, however, definitely speak with your guide first to understand the possible length and difficulty of each option. It is worth noting that, while I personally enjoy the hikes there, I don’t love the hike back after being in the sea.
If the thought of a hike doesn’t immediately interest you, maybe chartering a boat is more your speed. This is an extremely enjoyable option, with majority of boat charters offering drinks as standard and optional lunch options. A romantic picnic on the beach springs to mind (shout out to the honeymooners ;) ). Alternatively, they can also take you to one of the beachside restaurants.
Sunsets on Rendezvous Bay Beach are stunning and definitely worth staying for unless you have hiked there. However, mosquitoes and sandflies on this beach are pretty ferocious once the sun has set so bringing some insect repellent and possibly even some long sleeved items of clothing to cover yourself up with is necessary.
With Rendezvous Bay Beach being so remote, I would only recommend beach hopping if you have gone with the boat charter option. If this is the case checking out a couple of the following spots could be fun:
While enjoying the natural beauty of Rendezvous Bay beach, it's essential to be mindful of our impact on the environment. I encourage visitors to wear reef-safe sunblock as traditional sunscreens can harm the delicate coral reefs surrounding Antigua and Barbuda. Remember, a golden brown tan looks far better than a flaky red sunburn, and protecting the island's precious marine ecosystems is a collective responsibility.
Antigua and Barbuda are generally known for being safe islands, but it's always wise to take precautions to ensure a worry-free vacation. I recommend avoiding leaving valuables unattended on the beach, as opportunistic theft can occur. Additionally, while Rendezvous Bay beach is a serene spot during the day, it's best to avoid visiting beaches at night unless it's part of an organised event or activity.
