Little Ffryes beach is an absolutely stunning beach and one that I find myself at more often as I’ve gotten older. As the name suggests, it could be considered the little brother/sister to Ffryes beach. Whilst it is indeed smaller, I believe it makes up for its size in beauty and absolute picturesque nature. With sea grape and palm trees lining its shore, it offers ample coverage from the sun. However, if you’re looking for a bit more shade than that you can rent an umbrella and sun loungers from friendly locals on the beach. It’s worth noting that quite a number of the umbrellas and loungers there are owned by the Cocobay Resort next door so don’t be alarmed if you sit down and are asked to relocate to another umbrella/lounger.
Whilst there is not heaps of sea life to be seen at Little Ffryes beach, you can still enjoy a snorkel around the small bay. I’ve definitely come across a couple star fish laying in the seabed with some small fish circling nearby. This beach is very shallow but if you swim on the other side of the rocky barrier it gets a bit deeper with a slightly more marine life to be seen. Just make sure regularly check that there aren’t any jet skis or boats headed in your direction.
Due to the rocky of shore barrier, Little Ffryes beach is one of the calmest beaches in Antigua. It is also a very shallow beach which makes it a great spot for families and those who are less stable on their feet.
The closest place to eat while at Little Ffryes beach would be Sheer Rocks at the end of the beach. This is a fine dining restaurant with absolutely stunning views. If fine dining isn’t what your in the mood for you can always walk round the corner to Dennis Restaurant or take a short drive to one of my favourite local food spots, Aunty Cavell’s on Darkwood beach.
While Ffryes beach can get quite busy when cruise ships are in the port, I find that Little Ffryes beach doesn’t quite get the same level of traffic, making it a bit more of a relaxing spot.
It is worth noting that there are no public restrooms on either Little Ffryes or Ffryes beach. If you do find yourself in need of the facilities you will have to buy something from one of the restaurants to get access to their restrooms.
As mentioned before, there are a couple restaurant options within walking distance of Little Ffryes beach. If you’re not wanting to move far from the beach and are happy to spend a bit more for an exceptional experience Sheer Rocks is 100% the one for you. However, knowing that not everyone wants to splash out on a casual day at the beach, Dennis Restaurant can sort you out without breaking the bank. If you’re looking for the perfect middle ground of quality food and reasonably budget friendly prices, Aunt Cavell’s Restaurant is the real winner with top tier local cuisine and addictive coconut crushes (addition of local rum recommended ;) ).
Like it’s big brother/sister Ffryes beach, Little Ffryes beach’s sunsets are equally spectacular and only get better the longer you look. If you do planning on staying to enjoy the sunset, I would recommend you bring some insect repellent or something to cover yourself up with, as sand flies and mosquitoes will definitely be trying to enjoy the sunset with you.
If you’re tired of being on the beach all day but still want a romantic sunset view I’d recommend taking yourself just up to Sheer Rocks for some sensational cocktails by the bar.
If beach hopping is your thing, there are a number of beautiful beaches close to Ffryes beach that I would recommend checking out, here are a few:
While enjoying the natural beauty of Little Ffryes beach, it's essential to be mindful of our impact on the environment. I encourage visitors to wear reef-safe sunblock as traditional sunscreens can harm the delicate coral reefs surrounding Antigua and Barbuda. Remember, a golden brown tan looks far better than a flaky red sunburn, and protecting the island's precious marine ecosystems is a collective responsibility.
Antigua and Barbuda are generally known for being safe islands, but it's always wise to take precautions to ensure a worry-free vacation. I recommend avoiding leaving valuables unattended on the beach, as opportunistic theft can occur. Additionally, while Little Ffryes beach is a serene spot during the day, it's best to avoid visiting beaches at night unless it's part of an organised event or activity.
